Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Agriculture of Dominica is working so dedicatedly towards the development of the country. The Ministry provided seven Primary and secondary schools involved in agriculture with white potato seeds.

The white potato seeds include two of the varieties, Spunta and Desiree. This is for the inclusion in the crop mix during the school term. The provision of such plays a great role in providing adequate knowledge to the students regarding this.

By the activity of providing potato seeds, the extension staff of the Division of Agriculture Extension Services will assist and guide the students to become familiar with the white potato crop. As well, the members will provide support in experimenting with planting and harvesting for future agricultural activities.

Moreover, the White Potato Crop Calendar has also been provided to the schools. Such a calendar will provide timeliness, fertilizer, agro-chemical regimes, proper harvest and post-harvest techniques which are required throughout the crop cycle.

This will provide support in having detailed knowledge about the requirements for better crop production. As the seeds are provided to seven schools, the students will also be encouraged to participate in the plantation activities.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Dominica shared this information on their social media page.

“Students of the Soufriere Primary, Dublanc Primary, Christian Union Primary, Grand Bay Primary and Dominica Community High School are excited and will commence planting this week,” mentioned the ministry.

Such a statement by the ministry is revealing excitement among the students for starting the plantation. Such an activity as well will contribute towards a better climate in the small nation Island.

Dominica as well is on the sustainable agenda which as well would contribute greatly towards meeting the sustainable development goals. The shared glimpses also reveal the excitement which the students are extending.
