Daren Sammy appointed as independent director of CWI

Daren Sammy, who has been captain of 2 times T-20 world cup winning team of West Indies. Sammy has been appointed as the independent non-member director of the Cricket West Indies.

Sammy has been currently giving coaching to the Peshawar Zalmi for Pakistan Super League. Sammy is the head coach of Peshawar Zalmi. Sammy was chosen during a CWI board meeting last week. The main aim of the o choose him was to get out with a “fresh and more youthful perspective.”

Sammy, who played 126 One-Day Internationals, 38 Tests and 68 T20 Internationals, said that It has been an honour to be appointed as a CWI Director. That was another excellent opportunity for him to give his best to West Indies cricket in a new way, off the field.

Sammy said that all his local, regional and international experiences had prepared him to make a significant ongoing impact in West Indies cricket. He was excited and thankful for the chance to serve and look forward to giving back to the sport and region that he loved so much.

The first international cricketer to emerge from St Lucia, Sammy serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the country, with the national stadium also bearing his name.

The player’s perspective might be brought into governance and also the principles of Sammy’s administration. CWI presidents Ricky Skerritt stated on appointing Sammy.

Skerritt, recently elected unopposed for a second term, said that he was delighted to welcome Daren Sammy as an independent, non-member director whose role would be to ensure that all the right questions have been asked while contributing to the shaping of new ideas and solutions.

Sammy left Test cricket seven years before after being dismissed as captain but has never formally affirmed his retirement from all types of international cricket matches.

Last month, he called time on his career for St Lucia Zouks, a franchise which he had led or served since the beginning of the Caribbean Premier League, finally ending his playing days.

Sammy would be acting as the franchise’s consultant and brand ambassador for the year’s CPL, which would start in St Kitts and Nevis from August 26 to September 15.
