Cuba expects to fully inoculate its citizens by the end of 2021, says President Díaz-Canel

Cuba: Cuba is expecting to fully inoculate its population with homegrown COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this year, Cuba’s President informed the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.

President of Cuba – Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, further addressed the meet and talked about the embargo sanctions that have been imposed by the US government and cited that all these were meant to fade the “Cuban revolution” from the political map to the world.

“We expect to achieve “full immunization” target by the end of this year, which would make it possible for – us to improve in the – struggle against the new outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the President cited.

Earlier, in the month of July, the island country was short of medicines, medical oxygen and coronavirus tests which increased social tensions among the citizens and the Cuban government. This situation in the island country led to the situation of anti-government protests in the country, creating outrage among the citizens.

Cuba also became the first-ever nation in the world to inoculate toddlers of 2 years and above with its homegrown COVID-19 vaccine. As proud as the Cuban government is of its own vaccines, the shots have yet to receive approval from the – World Health Organization – WHO. Data from clinical trials of the vaccines have yet to be published in international peer-reviewed journals.

In the time of need, various nations came forward to assist Cuba, and Mexico is one of them that shipped supplies of oxygen to Cuba last month, and activists residing in the – United States sent 2 million syringes to the island.

So far, according to the statistics, there are more than 832,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 mutant in the island country, while over 7,048 individuals lost their lives to the deadliest COVID-19 outbreak.

If we look at the vaccination figures, a total of 76.2 per cent of Cuban population has received their first jab of the coronavirus vaccine while 41.7 per cent is fully vaccinated.
