COVID death toll in Barbados crosses 100

Barbados reported a total of 342 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 164 males and 178 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 11,474 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 11 October 2021.

Bridgetown, Barbados: Barbados reported a total of 342 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 164 males and 178 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 11,474 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 11 October 2021.

As per to the report, there are 537 individuals who are in isolation facilities and 2,284 people have isolated themselves at their homes. Three additional deaths have been recorded.

Among the deceased is a 59-year-old woman and an 88-year-old man, who passed away at the Accident & Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and a 76-year-old man died at Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility. All of them were unvaccinated.

With these additional deaths, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 101.

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 11,474 cases (5,550 males and 5,924 females). The public health laboratory has performed 345,246 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation reports further states that so far, a total of 142,623 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 113,022 individuals that is 41.7 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Out of the 342 new cases registered, 82 out of them are under 18 years, and 260 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance.

She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
