COVID-19: Barbados experiences upsurge in number of recoveries

Barbados: Barbados reported 56 recoveries and 57 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, February 20, out of the 756 tests held by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

There were 56 recoveries, and the number of active coronavirus cases is now 771. The 57 new positive cases included 29 females and 28 men. Two of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility under procedure evaluation to determine whether their positive PCR test outcome showed that they were, in fact, new coronavirus positive or whether they had coronavirus in the past and were no longer contagious.

Fifty-three of the new coronavirus cases were Barbadians, and two were non-residents.

Barbados has reported 2,772 confirmed coronavirus cases – 1,272 ladies and 1,500 males and 1,970 persons have redeemed. There have been 31 deaths from the COVID-19 ailment.

Since February 2020, the public health laboratory has finished 120,811 tests.

There were 1,346 persons inoculated from the vaccine on Saturday as part of the National Vaccination Program for coronavirus. Till now, a total of 15,837 immunizations have been administered, 6,981 men and 8,856 females.

Additionally, “Operations ran smoothly at the vaccination center set up at the Globe Drive-In, as scores of seniors arrived to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations. Once the vaccination of high-risk persons is completed, efforts will then focus on the rest of the general population.”

Home Affairs Minister Wilfred Abrahams has considered it unfortunate that there were pictures distributing with the long lines outside the post offices, and he emphasized that they did not represent incapability on the part of the postal assistance.

Moreover, Post offices registered to be opened for business next week will do so with an added complement of staff to promote those cashing pension cheques while also catering to other necessities.

Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, emphasized this on Saturday, during a press organization held via the Zoom platform, as he notified media representatives about operations at the nation’s post offices.
