Caribbean leaders visit Grenada, showcases unity among small island nations

Caribbean: The Caribbean leaders visited Grenada and extend support to the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell in their challenging times. Their visit to the twin-island nation is a testament to their dedication towards fostering unity and brotherhood.
The Prime Ministers of the nation’s namely, Dominica, Saint Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis visited Grenada and also assess the damages caused by Hurricane Beryl. All the leaders also shared the pictures of their visit on their social media account and promised to continue to extend support to the ones affected by the devastating effects of Beryl.
Notably, the Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Grenada as a dangerous and deadly category-4 hurricane. It was considered the strongest hurricane to form in the Atlantic Ocean since 2005. As per the reports, at least 90% of the physical infrastructure, including homes and businesses in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, were destroyed. The authorities of Grenada have declared Carriacou, St. Patrick and Petite Martinique as disaster zones.
Dr Roosevelt Skerrit
The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared that he along with the other leaders went to Carriacou, Petite Martinique and other parts of Grenada to offer support and to assess the damage caused by Beryl. He also shared that he assured PM Mitchell of his commitment towards emphasizing the urgent need for climate justice that addresses the disproportionate impacts of climate change on the vulnerable Caribbean states.
Philip J. Pierre
The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre stated that his visit to Carriacou, post Hurricane Beryl provided him the first-hand interaction with the victims of the ravages of Climate Change. He further asserted that the horror stories of their experiences continue to signal them the urgent need of not only mitigating but also the requirement of adapting measures and climate justice which will help them to build back stronger.
The PM also mentioned that his colleagues in the OECS and winder CARICOM have been amongst the first one to respond to the distress calls of the sister islands and they will continue to provide support.
Dr Terrance Drew
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew shared that they visited a number of affected people in Grenada and Carriacou. He further remarked that it was heart wrenching to see the extent of the devastation. He called it a stark reminder of the existential threat of climate change.
He vowed to work together to help Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique through this most difficult time. He also appealed for the climate justice and stated that it is an urgent one and everyone need unified international approach to deal with climate crisis.
Moreover, all the leaders are also planning to visit Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves in short order.
