Caribbean leaders celebrate International women’s day, lauds their contribution

The leaders of the Caribbean nations have always supported and encouraged women. They have always acknowledged the social, economic, cultural and political contributions of women and have promoted them for their growth and advancement.

The leaders have always recognized women for their excellent services in various sectors irrespective of caste, creed, religion and colour. Notably, the world celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2024 under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerates progress.”

The theme outlines the significance of providing necessary support, and resources to all the women making tireless efforts to ensure development in various sectors of society.

Similarly, the Caribbean leaders have always extended support to empower women of their nation and to break down all the barriers of stereotypes and biases to acknowledge the contribution of women from all walks of life. 

Moreover, Caribbean leaders also took to their social media accounts and extended wishes to all the women for their development.

Wishes of the Caribbean leaders

Dominica – Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit 

PM Skerrit highlighted the tireless spirit and countless contributions of the women and honoured the resilience and grace of every female who continues to break barriers to bring change and development to the nation. PM Skerrit mentioned, “To the women of Dominica and around the world: Happy International Women’s Day.”

St Kitts and Nevis – Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew

PM Drew also took to his Facebook account and greeted all the women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. PM Terrance Drew wrote “Happy International Women’s Day! Empowered women empower the world. Happy International Women’s Day to all the incredible women who continue to break barriers, inspire change, and shape a future where equality knows no bounds.”

Saint Lucia – Prime Minister, Philip J Pierre

PM Pierre shed light on this year’s theme of International Women’s Day and pledges that they will continue to invest in women in order to accelerate their progress. He also acknowledged the invaluable role that women are playing in nurturing and growing society.

“Happy International Women’s Day to the women of Saint Lucia and beyond,” noted PM Philip Pierre. 

Barbados – Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley 

The only current female Prime Minister of Barbados, PM Mottley, who is herself a great example to others, also extends best wishes to all women around the world.

PM Mottley remarked “Happy International Women’s Day to all the phenomenal women, here in Barbados and beyond! This year’s #IWD theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” reminds us that it is only when we invest in women, that our societies can find the right pathways to accelerate progress.”

Grenada – Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell 

Grenada’s PM also extends his deepest appreciation and recognition to the countless contributions of all the women who are making for the progress and development of the nation.

“May this day inspire continued investments in the empowerment, education, and well-being of our women, accelerating progress for a more equitable and prosperous society. To every woman making a difference, your impact is immeasurable. Happy International Women’s Day!” stated PM Mitchell.

Antigua and Barbuda – Prime Minister, Gaston Browne 

PM Gaston Browne also extended wishes and mentioned all the challenges that women are facing in order to create a positive impact and development in the various sectors of the nation.

Caribbean leaders’ wishes reflect their commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women to create a more impartial and prosperous society.
