Belmopan: The Belizean government announced postponed reopening of its land borders and seaports to the month of February 2022, which it earlier planned to open on new years’ eve.
This decision by the Cabinet has been taken on the recommendation of the COVID-19 committee as the new variant ‘Omicorn’ emerges.
The government authorities noted this decision had been taken so that the island could prepare well and strengthen its health sector to prepare for the new variant of the COVID-19 virus.
Last week, the announcement was made by government that it will open land borders and seaports for tourists. The Ministry of Health & Wellness further noted that it is continuously closely monitoring the situation of the COVID-19 with the motive to assure the integrity of the health system of the island and the welfare of Belizeans.
COVID-19 statistics of Belize –
Since the COVID-19 outbreak emerged on the island, there have been a total of 31,444 individuals who have tested positive for the deadliest mutant.
On the other hand, a total of 592 individuals have lost their lives to the deadliest virus so far, as per the COVID-19 statistics.
The population of vaccinated individuals –
According to the statistics, there are a total of 229,714 people who have taken their first jabs of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines, which accounts for 57.8 percent of the islands’ total population.
While in total, 198,204 individuals have received their required number of COVID-19 doses and are now fully immunised against the deadly mutant. This counts for 49.8% of the islands’ total targeted population.
The island closed its borders after cases of the COVID-19 were reported by the health minister in the year 2020.
In addition, the health ministry officials has urged the general public to strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines as Christmas approaches.
