Bahamas health ministry conducting ‘Ask the Doctors’ meet to clear COVID queries of citizens

Nassau, the Bahamas: The Ministry of Health and Wellness is conducting a “Ask the Doctors” Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, 11 January 2022 at 8 pm to answer the queries of the general public related to the COVID-19. This meeting is being held under the “Together Against COVID-19” public education campaign. 

The health experts will be present at the COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall Meeting, which is conducted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with The Office of the Prime Minister. The meet will also be telecasted live on the official Facebook page of the Office of the Prime Minister. 

“Have all your questions answered about the virus, vaccines, boosters and overall protection and personal responsibility during the pandemic,” the prime ministers’ official page informed. The Bahamian government is hopeful that this will assist in removing the vaccine hesitancy among the citizens.  

Among the health officials who will be present at the meet are: 

• Clint Watson, Press Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, will be hosting the event,
• Dr Nikkiah Forbes, Director, National HIV/AIDS & Infectious Diseases Programme, MOH,
• Dr Phillip Swann, the Acting Chief Medical Officer – CMO, MOH, 
• Dr Cherita Moxey, Senior House Officer, MOH, 
• Dr Delon Brennen, Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO), MOH. 

As per the COVID-19 vaccination statistics of the Bahamas island, a total of 158,120 individuals, which counts for 40.2% of the total population, is partially vaccinated, with taking one dose of the vaccine. 

On the other hand, i9n total, 149,393 individuals are those who have taken their required number of jabs and are now fully immunised against the deadliest virus. This figure counts for 38% of the total population. Meanwhile, so far, only 3% of the eligible Bahamians have taken their booster shots.  

Since the pandemic started on the island, it has recorded 27,122 confirmed cases of the viral disease, whereas 717 individuals scummed to COVID-19.
