Belize: A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident that left a 30-year-old laborer and a 5-year-old child injured in San Ignacio Town. The arrest took place on Thursday, August 20.

The suspect has been identified as Kemp Roy Gamboa Mena, a Belize citizen who works as a labourer. His charges included attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm to another person.

These charges stem from a shooting that took place on August 3rd on Collins Boulevard. According to the Belize Police Department, Carlton McKoy was assaulted by occupants of a parked car and shot multiple times shortly before 7:40 pm on Collins Boulevard.

The child was shot when walking back home with his mother on nearby Bullet Tree Road. Both the victims were rushed to the hospital and were found in stable condition later.

The accused, Gamboa Mena, is currently being charged only for the injury inflicted upon McKoy. Investigations into the case are still ongoing, as police are trying to determine a motive behind the shooting.

Locals have taken to social media to share their condolences for both McKoy and his child. One individual commented, “Whatever happened between the man and gunman, should not have involved an innocent child into this mess. Glad he is safe now.”

Another person stated, “Hoping the man was not involved in something shade and this was a revenge on him and his family for that. Police should investigate properly. Hope the five year old gets well soon and back to his life soon as well.”
