Bahamas: During the great economic opportunities, the PLP under the leadership of Perry Christie and Brave David failed to bring better living conditions and opportunities for Bahamians, said FNM on Sunday evening.
“None of the Leaders from Columbus in 1492 to the present have experienced the challenges that PM Minnis and the FNM government have faced since taking over the administration of the Bahamas.”
They met a broke down economy riddled with high unemployment, crime, many outstanding bills in Public Treasury, to be paid to Bahamians and vendors, a failing tourism product, frequent fires at the dump severely affecting residents, frequent electrical power outages, aging infrastructure at BPL generation plant along with large outstanding debts, General Post Office Workers screaming for relief while working only three hours per day due to their compromised work environment, lost of confidence in the government by local and international investors, poor management and a failed health care system, disappointed Family Islanders who were expecting but never received new clinics due to unpaid vendors and architects.
Lest we forget, these are the challenges and the burdens left in place for the Bahamian people by Brave Davis, Fred Mitchell, and the PLP.
Despite these challenges left in place by the PLP, the Minnis government came in. It immediately went to work correcting these outstanding issues that were very soon exacerbated by other national crisis, including: the necessity of evacuating residents from the Southeast Islands during Hurricane Erma, followed closely by Hurricane Dorian, where Grand Bahama and the Abacos suffered significant damage and many persons lost their lives and homes. If this was not enough, the government is now navigating through a worldwide pandemic that has eroded the economic systems throughout the world, including the Bahamas.
Working through these many challenges, the Minnis-led government was able to lead Bahamians through these unprecedented times by providing unemployment benefits, rent, BPL, and food assistance while continuing the work of the government. Outside of the Bahamas, civil servants lost their jobs, but in the Bahamas, not one Government Worker lost their job.
While governments worldwide ceased development programs, this FNM government provided opportunities for its citizens through free education at the University of the Bahamas, BAMSI, BTVI. It offered grants for persons wanting to start their own businesses. Infrastructural work continued throughout the entire Bahamas. We have seen renewed confidence and trust by investors, local and foreign, for this FNM Government.
This has been the most challenging period in the history of the Bahamas. Still, the FNM administration under the leadership of Hubert Minnis was able to steer our country through these troubled waters.
Some persons, including the PLP, attempt to mislead and misrepresent the facts for personal gain and the love for power. They bring nothing to the table, only promises and the thirst for power. Be not fooled by these folks draped in wolves’ clothing.
“If the Bahamas is to continue on the road of good governance, opportunities for all and respect from other nations, this is not the time to gamble with you and your children’s future.”
