Bahamas: First tranche of 100,800 pre-paid vaccines obtain by PAHO Revolving Fund

Bahamas: 33,600 doses of the AstraZeneca Vaccine landed at Jet Aviation yesterday through the COVAX Facility.

The consignment represents the first tranche of the 100,800 pre-paid vaccines obtained through the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) Revolving Fund.

The Bahamas has gained a total of 53,600 vaccines. Since the COVID-19 immunisation program began on March 14th 2021, more than 7,000 shots of the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine have been directed on New Providence and Grand Bahama.

The highest number of COVID-19 inoculations given on a single day totalled more than 1,000.

63% of those who have got the vaccine are over the age of 60, along with healthcare workers and staff of the uniformed branches.

42%of those who received the vaccine were male, and 58% were female.

Vaccinations are started on Eleuthera Tuesday, March 30th, through Thursday, April 1st, starting with healthcare front liners, residents over 60 and staff of the uniformed branches. Vaccinations on Abaco and Bimini are anticipated to start next week after the Easter holidays.

Immunization will continue this week on New Providence, Grand Bahama, and Eleuthera leading up to April 1st and will resume on Wednesday, April 7th. Mobile units will also provide immunisations to nursing homes and other residential facilities this week.

On Wednesday, March 31st, meetings at Loyola Hall will be open to the staff of the judiciary, uniformed staff branches, healthcare workers and members of the general public over the age of 60.

Following the Easter Holiday, those with disabilities, teachers and hospitality workers will become eligible to receive the vaccine. Provisions will be made for students and athletes who require vaccinations to travel abroad, including coaches and other support staff.

Vaccinations continue at the Church of God of Prophecy, by Wednesday, March 31st, for residents 60 and older, healthcare workers and staff of the uniformed branches.

Vaccination efforts in Grand Bahama will be concentrated on the east and west ends of the island at the start of this week and will remain at the Susan J. Wallace Community Center, beginning mid-week.

COVID-19 Ambassadors will be observing beaches and parks during the Easter Holidays to ensure implementation of the Emergency Powers Orders.

Surveillance efforts will be hopped up on islands where an escalation in the number of cases is being reported. Assessments are anticipated to be in by early next week, with the probability of further steps taken based on findings.
