Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne, on July 15, met local entrepreneur and Agriculture science educator Elise Phillip in his office on Queen Elizabeth Highway.

Phillip had the opportunity to display several locally produced agro-processed foods and products made exclusively by her.

The entrepreneur and teacher explained that her goods are byproducts from fruits, vegetables, and plants found in Antigua. Some of the products showcased to the Prime Minister were breadfruit, pumpkin, and banana flour, local fruit wines, ginger and turmeric powders, hair products, and craft trinkets made from plants.

Prime Minister Browne applauded Phillip for her unique and healthy business concept and encouraged her to expand the operation. PM Browne also advised the entrepreneur to take advantage of funding avenues such as the Entrepreneurial Development Fund Programm (EDP) to further develop her agro-business and assured her of his government’s commitment to assist in any way possible.

Phillip’s products are known as “Elunikue” and can be found at Fresh Vine Grocery located on Herberts main road.

Additionally, Prime Minister Browne met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Limya Eltayeb. She presented a Letter of Credentials to Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

During the high-level meeting earlier today, Prime Minister Browne and Eltayeb spoke at length about The United Nations (UN) common premises located in Antigua on Independence Drive.

The multi-functional building, which opened its doors in March 2022, allows UN agencies to operate in a single location in Antigua. The Common Premises includes the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the UNDP. The Common Premises is the first and only of its kind in the sub-region.
