At the arrival of vaccines, Hon. Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Her Excellency Lindsy Thompson and Consuls General,
Ministry of Health Officials to include the Chief Medical Officer Dr Rhonda Sealey-Thomas and Permanent Secretary Ms Ena Henry, Hon. Sir. Molwyn Joseph & The Hon. E. P. Chet Greene were present.
These past 3 days are the most pre-eminent milestone for PAHO. In the last week of January, the COVAX, an association led by WHO and Gavi, assured equal access to COVID-19 vaccines reported by PAHO. PAHO Caribbean already delivered the shipment of COVID-19 vaccines to Jamaica, Bahamas, Guyana, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Barbados.
The Caribbean islands were already in the inadequacy of vaccines for its target population. The munificent gift of authorities will assist these domains in inoculating the target population to accomplish herd immunity.
On the other hand, 9 countries will receive 280,800 Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines under COVAX through PAHO. Costa Rica will also obtain enough amount of shots to inoculate its population.
