St Lucia: Saint Lucia Labour Party issued a statement over Prime Minister Allen Chastanet.
SLP stated that “Allen Chastanet only cares about court delays when it hurts him.”
“Once again, our uncaring prime minister shows Saint Lucians who he is and what he’s all about,” added SLP.
SLP stated, “The truth of the matter is, justice delayed is justice denied. There are several solutions to this matter of court delays. First, it’s giving the courts more resources to process matters more quickly.”
Furthermore, SLP added, Second, it is improving our courts’ technology and efficiency so that they can get more done in the same-amount of time. This includes modernizing court systems so we are not held back by waiting on transcripts and scheduling. And, third, it means hiring more administrative and judicial staff to work through the backlogs.
Additionally stated, “The truth of the matter is, Allen Chastanet is the Prime Minister. He and his uncaring government set the budgets for our courts. If he wants the courts to act more efficiently, then the power is in his hands.”
Earlier, SLP stated, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, acknowledges that he and his uncaring UWP are headed for a massive defeat when the election is called. This week’s interview on the radio suggests that he would push holding the election beyond the five-year mark of 6 June 2021. Why? He blames COVID-19, but the reality is, he is afraid of the people.
Since the global pandemic began, there have been successful elections held across the Caribbean community, including in Anguilla, Belize, Bermuda, Jamaica, Suriname, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and the Turks & Caicos Islands. Elections will be organised in the coming weeks in the Cayman Islands as well, SLP added.
Furthermore, SLP stated, Elections can be held safely during coronavirus using PPE and social distancing. The reality is, the Prime Minister is afraid of the people because he knows his uncaring government has failed to provide people with a social safety net during the pandemic.
