Afreximbank launches its new academy, Afreximbank Academy at ATFS 2022

Caribbean: Afreximbank introduced and launched its new academy, Afreximbank Academy (AFRACAD), at the ATFS 2022 on October 03, 2022. AFRACAD seeks to unlock trade opportunities by building capacity and advancing local talent through a learning, knowledge and networking hub centred on Africa’s needs.

Sarah Arapta, Chairperson, Uganda Bankers’ Association and CEO, Citibank Uganda delivered the welcome address at the opening ceremony of the ATFS 2022.

Chairman and President of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank – Professor Benedict Oramah, was joined by Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President Intra-African Trade Bank – Afreximbank, Stephen Kauma, Director and Global Head Human Resources – Afreximbank and Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda, for the unveiling of the Afreximbank Academy brand.

During Day 1 of the ATFS 2022, Dr Izabela Karpowicz, Resident Representative, International Monetary Fund, broke down the ‘Ukraine/Russia Crisis and its Impact on African Economies and Trade’. Gwen Mwaba, Director and Global Head – Trade Finance, Afreximbank, reviewed a case study on the ‘Africa Vaccine Acquisition Trust and How a DFI changed the Narrative for Africa’ on the same day of the ATFS 2022.

One of the final sessions from Day 1 of ATFS 2022 was led by Tagbo Agbazu, Executive Director of Pan-African Centre for Policy Studies (PACPS) South Africa, in which he dissected ‘Mitigating Compliance Risk in Trade Finance & Trade-Based Money Laundering’.

The final presentation on ATFS day 1 was given by Idrissa Diop, Director – Compliance, Afreximbank, where he discussed the ‘Compliance System Financing Facility’.
