Jamaica: Cruise Season 2022-2023 has started in Jamaica; according to the Executive Director of Jamaica Vacations (JamVac), Joy Roberts, the season will see a significant turnaround on the island. The country will witness the docking of cruises after a break of two years due to the global pandemic.

While speaking to a local news website, Roberts termed the arrival of nearly 9000 passengers and crew Royal Caribbean flagship as the return of normality in the cruise sector. The cruise – Wonder of the Seas, started its maiden journey from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the eastern Caribbean. This cruise ship consists of 18-deck and has a capacity for nearly 7000 guests and 2300 crew members.

Roberts further noted that this cruise season would welcome huge Oasis-class vessels of Royal Caribbean, including Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas. Furthermore, she stated that sending such huge and expensive vessels to the shore of Jamaica shows confidence in the cruise shipping sector of the nation.

Roberts also pointed out that, apart from Royal Caribbean, many major companies, such as Carnival, MSC, Disney and Norwegian, are attracted to Jamaica and will send their cruises to the nation. She further outlined that cruise traffic will be equally witnessed by all the ports of call, including Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Royal and Port Antonio, from 2022 to 2024. She also anticipated that local stakeholders, including the residents, the police, and the leaders, would fully participate.
