The leaders exchanged crucial discussions on several topics which are being expected this time as well, promoting the overall CARICOM region with the support and investment by India.

Also, this CARICOM-India Summit will be followed by a two-day second regional symposium on crime and violence in Guyana.

This symposium would bring several Caribbean leaders together with their vision to hold significant discussions on the possible causes of increasing crime and violence and the solutions that can be implemented in order to address all these causes.

The authorities noted that they are committed to take urgent action to protect the citizens of the countries, ensuring the safety, security and preservation of public interest in dealing with crime and violence.

They noted that such regional and national collaborations are critical to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by Caribbean societies regarding crime and violence.

The first ever regional symposium on Crime and Security as a Public Health Issue was hosted by Trinidad and Tobago in April 2023. And, the second edition was initially scheduled to take place in Barbados, but now it will take place in Guyana.

While shedding light on the symposium, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley stated that crime and violence have become a troubling development that has been threatening the safety and harmony of the communities.

She added that this symposium was scheduled to be held in Barbados but they knew that they had a Heads of Government Conference with a visiting Head of State from elsewhere, therefore they had to shift the conference.
