St Kitts and Nevis: Newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Guyana, Amit Telang paid a courtesy visit to St Kitts and Nevis to meet the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew and several other ministers.
During his visit, HC Telang had a meeting with Foreign Minister, Dr Denzil Douglas and presented his letter of credentials. The meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering collaboration on key issues crucial to both India and St Kitts and Nevis.
During the discussion, they emphasized on the Sustainable Island Developing State agenda. Also, they focused on the commitments of both the countries to environmental sustainability and resilient development.
Such a discussion would foster the relationship between both the countries by the means of collaborative works to address the key issues. As they also explored the areas for joint efforts to tackle climate change, shared their expertise and resources to mitigate its impact on St Kitts and Nevis, the fruitful results can be expected.
As per reports, it has come forward that former high commissioner Dr. KJ Srinivasa was lacking in his efforts to work for the betterment of Indian diaspora in the region. Due to this, the necessary action was required to be taken. In this concern only, the decision for appointing a new High Commissioner was taken.
Considerably, Amit S Telang got appointed last year in September. He is an Indian Foreign Service officer of batch 2005 with whom great hopes of the people are connected. As, there were a lot of complaints reported by the public for the previous ambassador, people are hoping highly for better works from the new Minister.
The appointment of Minister Amit Telang directs towards building good relations with India. However, if considered the country India, it does not appoint Non- Resident Ambassadors. Georgia Online, a prominent news website reported that even India should also take the initiatives regarding this.
The report by a Georgia based website added the statement by Mark George who is a former diplomat. He said, “By balancing its traditional emphasis on only resident ambassadors, India needs to extend its diplomatic reach with the appointment of non-resident ambassadors.”
He even highlighted that many small countries are considering non-resident ambassadors in India. Likewise, India must do this which would surely strengthen the relations of India with other countries. Appointing non-resident ambassadors could provide the nation support in balancing economic and administrative efficiency by approaching bilateral relations.
Highlighting the need for India to think on this, a step taken on this would allow India to get into the specific benefits by making the use of non-resident ambassadors.
