Guyana Prez Irfaan Ali pays respect by placing ceremonial wreath at Cenotaph Monument in Trinidad and Tobago

Guyana: Dr Irfaan Ali paid his respects by placing a ceremonial wreath at the Cenotaph Monument in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on August 18, 2022.

President Ali was received at the entrance of Memorial Park by Trinidad’s Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds; Mayor of Port of Spain, Joel Martinez and the Chief of Staff of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Brigadier Dexter Francis.

The cenotaph, which stands in the centre of the square, honours Trinidad and Tobago nationals who lost their lives in the first and second world wars.

Dr Irfaan Ali and his delegation attended a State Banquet on Wednesday evening at President’s House in Port of Spain, in honour of his state visit to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Acting President of the Twin Island Republic, Christine Kangaloo, was joined by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and his wife, Mrs Sharon Clarke-Rowley, along with Government Ministers, The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Mayor of Port of Spain, among other officials.

The Guyanese delegation included the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha and the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond.

President Ali is expected to participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Rowley today, while the visiting team will also participate in tomorrow’s Agri-Investment Forum and Expo.

Dr Irfaan Ali and First Lady Arya Ali were received by Christine Kangaloo, Acting President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, at the Piarco International Airport this afternoon.

President Ali is on a State Visit to the Twin Island Republic.

Upon his arrival, the Guyanese Head of State was welcomed with a 21-gun salute, after which he was invited to inspect the guard of honour.

President Ali is expected to participate in a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley, tomorrow, while the visiting team will participate in the Agri-Investment Forum that will officially start on Friday.
