Guyana: In a significant development, a 47-year-old single mother of three from Farm East Bank Demarara was given the keys to her new two-bedroom house on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The residence was built by President Dr Irfaan Ali’s Men on Mission Initiative.

The mother expressed gratitude and described the gesture as the best Mother’s Day gift. “In our wildest dreams we couldn’t envisioned this, this is the best Mother’s Day gift ever — ever. I don’t think anything can top you moving into a new home and getting the keys on Mother’s Day,” said the beneficiary Nicole Fraser.

Deputy Commissioner’ Administration’ Calvin Brutus and Commander Regional Division 4 B Khrisna Ramana joined the Men on Mission team, which included Minister McCoy and Dr Josh Kanhai, to do a symbolic handing over of a brand-new home to Nicole Fraser, a single mother of three (3) in Farm, East Bank Demerara on Sunday May 12, 2024.

Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, presented the keys on behalf of President Ali during the brief handover ceremony.

Fraser was delighted over the development and said that on this special occasion, she is thrilled to begin this new chapter of her life, which she has always dreamed of and longed for in her new house.

The 47-year-old said that she never gave up hope and held onto the vision of a future of her own home. She expressed her gratitude to Men on Mission and the government of Guyana who made her vision turn into reality. Meanwhile Minister McCoy said that the Men on Mission is a driving force behind fostering cooperation and also empowering communities.

He also said that similar homes are also being built in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six as well as Ten. The significant initiative of Men on Mission was launched in 2022 to push men into society through skills training as well as productivity.

Other than constructing homes, this group has impacted vulnerable people through a range of significant humanitarian initiatives.
