Failed assassination attempt on Haitian PM Henry

After the murder of President Jovenel Moise, now an assassination attempt was made on Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Sunday.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti: After the murder of President Jovenel Moise, now an assassination attempt was made on Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Sunday. The failed assassination try held at a church in Gonaives during a mass dedicated to the 218th anniversary of the country’s independence.

Shooters initiated opened fire at the Prime Minister but failed to kill him. One individual has also been killed in the attempt, while numerous have sustained injuries. PM Henry is safe and healthy.

It is not yet confirmed that the deceased was among the armed men who opened fire at PM Henry. As per the sources, the Haitian gangs warned the prime minister not to attend any function in the Gonaives.

After the failed assassination attempt, the authorities cancelled all the events related to the Independence Day of the most-impoverished Caribbean state. Haiti marked its Independence Day on January 1.

It is being expected that the Haitian prime minister’s security will be increased after this incident.

Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the Caribbean and the Latin American region, which is currently battling several issues, including hunger and poverty crisis.

Kidnappings, gang violence, and murders are very frequently occurring criminal activities. Haitian gangs several times have threatened to kill PM Henry if he did not agree to resign from his post, even at the cost of his blood.

No other information has yet been shared related to the investigation of the incident. Even earlier, Haitian gang leader Jimmy Cherizie asked the United Nations and the United States to cut their ties with the Haitian government if they wanted to see Haiti as a free nation.

Yet, it has not been clear who was behind President Jovenel Moise’s assassination, who was killed at his own residence on July 7, 2021, although several theories have been cooked related to the assassination attempt.
