Dominican Sports Ministry welcomes athletes from CARIFTA Games with appreciation token

The Ministry of Sports welcomed the players of Dominica, who returned from CARIFTA Games 2022 on April 25, 2022. The team landed at the Douglas Charles Airport at around 1 pm.

Dominica: The Ministry of Sports welcomed the players of Dominica, who returned from CARIFTA Games 2022 on April 25, 2022. The team landed at the Douglas Charles Airport at around 1 pm.

The team was then greeted as well as congratulated by the Minister of Sports – Roselyn Paul. Following the landing at their hometown, the players received a welcome reception from the Ministry of Sports in the airport’s Business Lounge.

Gold medalist Treneese Hamilton and Silver medalist Addison James received a grand welcome when they returned to Dominica. During the brief ceremony, congratulatory remarks were given by the Minister for Sports and the Minister for Youth, Dr Adis King, for successfully winning medals in the CARIFTA.

A token of appreciation was given by the ministers to the athletes for representing Dominica on such a big stage.

This year, in CARIFTA Games, Dominica ranked 10th with two (2) medals in the bag. Dominica won gold as well as a silver medal in the Games.

Other players (excluding medallists) who represented Dominica at the games are – Faithlean Kalima Simon (100m, 200m), Kerelle Etienne (100m, 200m), U20 Women Jemerly Lawrence (100m, High Jump), U20/Open Men- Nathan Telemaque (Octathalon), Malachi Cuffy (800m) Neo Davis (1500m, 5000m), Joshua St. Jean (100m and 200m) Peter Daniel (100m and 200m) and Peterson Daniel (Javelin).

The games were hosted by Jamaica, which also topped the medal tally with 97 medals (47 – Gold, 32 – Silver, and 18 – Bronze). The 49th edition of the CARIFTA Games was held from April 16 to 18 at the National Stadium in Kingston.

At the airport, during an interview, Hamilton appreciated the welcome she received from her family and supporters. “I really love and appreciate what they did. I didn’t expect to see everyone, especially this large [group] of people here; it’s a shock,” she was quoted as.

Addison James also expressed pride in bringing home a medal in his first CARIFTA Games. “I am really proud because I was a little nervous, but I kept my cool, and I did my best,” he said.
