Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit introduces Melissa Skerrit as candidate from Roseau Central

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit launched Melissa Poponne-Skerrit from Roseau Central as the candidate of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) for the upcoming general elections.

Prime Minister Skerrit praised Melissa Skerrit, stating that she has delivered all for the betterment and upliftment of her constituency. He further commended that she will be strongly praised and her ideas, plans and programmes will be listened to and backed.

He added that Melissa is a powerhouse, who is committed as well as dedicated to children, the elderly and people of her constituency and the whole island nation. He further said that many people believe that her ideas and her programs come from thinking of Melissa Skerrit and her connection with the city of Roseau; she comes to him with so many ideas on a daily basis.

In addition to this, he stated that Melissa Skerrit has always thought about the young people and the employment generation in the city.

During the launch event, PM Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted that Dominica has been providing the best treatment in the National Hospital in the OECS. By citing an example of a patient who came to the United States of America to get cancer treatment at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital’s oncology department. He further said that the patient has been receiving care, and we pray for that person’s recovery.”

He focused and said, “That is what Labour Party has done for Dominica.”

He added that Dominica now has a Haifa Machine that will help in detecting cancer in early cancer. While showing his care towards the people of Dominica, he stated that he was shocked when he heard in the year 2004 that the hospital of Dominica was without an ICU unit, and he was in a dilemma about how the country could have a hospital without an ICU.

He stated that the Dominica Labour Party 2005 introduced an ICU unit at the hospital in 2005, which was the first ever the country had an ICO unit in Dominica. While emphasising the rebuilding of the economy of the nation, PM Roosevelt Skerrit stressed, “We are to rebuild the economy, rebuild his soul and the Integrity of our country.”

In addition to this, he remembered the ‘bad days’ of Dominica and stated that no International Organisation, Financial Institution was ready to assist the nation because of bad management. He further stated that now Dominicans have various good reasons to go out and vote for the Dominican labour party on Election Day.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit emphasised that this year, the election will see 45 candidates contesting, which is the highest in history.
