China has halted imports from a Chilean seafood producer after detecting the COVID-19 virus on the packaging of the supplier.
The General Administration of Customs said a nucleic acid test on the packaging of a batch of frozen crab tested positive for COVID-19.
The statement said that the import applications from Pesquera Isla Del Rey SA would be suspended for a week.
China is vocal about finding traces of the COVID-19 pathogen on the food and packaging, raising fears that imported items are linked to recent cases of the virus.
China has also ordered a range of precautionary steps, which are creating disruptions with China’s trading partners.
