The police official of Trinidad and Tobago was charged with the offence of killing two siblings and shooting a man at Courts Mega Store Car Park in El Socorro, San Juan.

Notably, the suspect has been identified as 34-year-old PC Sidney Roberts, a police constable. It is expected that the suspect will appear virtually before the Port of Spain Magistrate Court in his connection with the said offences.

Moreover, the suspect was charged on the day of Christmas as he was attached to the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) when he murdered the siblings and shot the man with the intention to provide grievous body harm to Daniel Hernandez, the Assistant Superintendent of Police of the North-Eastern division.

The exercise was conducted by the officials of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) and they arrested the suspect for the offences charged against him on 25 December 2023. The exercise was held followed by the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.

Further, the enquiry was conducted by the officials of the Professional Standards Bureau, the Research Analytical Unit and the Legal Officer Ramjag of the HBI Region II.
As per the reports of the authorities, various units attached to North-eastern Division reacted to the reports of the loud explosions on 17 December at the Courts Mega Store Car Park in El Socorro, San Juan.

On arriving at the scene, the first respondent met a police officer off-duty and noticed various people lying on the ground nursing injuries. It is to be noted two people succumbed to their injuries while others were taken for medical treatment at the hospital.
The residents of Trinidad and Tobago responded to this matter and expressed their sentiments, adding that “he is a bandit nothing more, you murdered them after you took their money.”

While, another person commented, “How does the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service or rather whom in the TTPS select these officers in the first instance a then to be deployed in these positions of prominent sections. I’m assuming that the HBI is an office that requires people of proven desirable qualities. Was he moonlighting?”
