St Lucia: The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information has started preparing for St Lucia Carnival 2022. As per the schedule, the cultural event would be scheduled between July 7, 2022, and July 19, 2022. The event would be a mixture of national as well as private events.
Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), formerly known as the Carnival Planning and Management Agency (CPMA), will host and manage the ‘Lucian Carnival’. The Committee would be chaired by Tamara Gibson, along with stakeholders, including Events Company of Saint Lucia Inc. (ECSL), Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), Carnival Music Management Committee (CMMC), Export Saint Lucia, Steelpan Association, Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), and the Carnival Bands Association (CBA).
The Minister for Creative Industries and Culture, Dr Ernest Hilaire, outlined, “I am excited with how plans are progressing for St Lucian Carnival 2022. The Committees (both the Carnival Planning and Management Committee and the Carnival Music Management Committee) that we have made have brought a pool of experience to the table as we plan to bring back our cultural showcase after its two-year break. We know Carnival’s trajectory was on in 2020 before our precautionary closure, but the energy and demand for Carnival this year is similar to 2019.”
Dr Hilaire added, “It is fascinating when we know that Carnival events are sold out within days following the launch, and some, even four to five months in advance. We must ensure that we give the National Events; Panorama, King and Queen of the Band, Calypso and Soca Monarchs and the Queen Show the necessary support to be among the big events during the Carnival season.”
The Ministry of Health & the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) will continue to conduct meetings to finalize health as well as safety protocols for the hosting of St Lucia Carnival 2022.
