The young girl of St Kitts and Nevis, Skyla Connor shined at the recently concluded 32nd OECS Swimming Championship 2024. She won the first medal for her nation at the event, claiming silver in 50m breaststroke in the girls 11-12 age category.
Skyla Connor along with other 14 swimmers proudly represented St Kitts and Nevis at the 32nd OECS Swimming Championship and gave some tough competition to the other nations competing in the tournament.
Connor, member of Bring It Swim Team of Nevis competed in different and several events at the OECS. The events in which she participated includes, 400m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 200m Medley Relay, 100m Freestyle, 200m Free Relay, 200m Freestyle, 200m IM, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Mixed Free Relay respectively.
Before heading to St Vincent and the Grenadines for the championship, all these swimmers participated in the pre-OECS camp held in Barbados. All this team of 15 swimmers completed their camp in Barbados and got an opportunity to enhance their skill and get comfortable with the environment of the pool.
The OECS Swimming Championship was conducted in St Vincent and the Grenadines from 8th – 10th November, 2024. The event brought swimmers from Eastern Caribbean nations together to participate and showcase their skills, abilities and techniques.
This silver medal claimed by Skyla Connor is a great achievement for her as well as St Kitts and Nevis, representing her nation proudly on an international platform.
Following her exceptional victory in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the St Kitts Nevis Aquatic Federation congratulated Connor for making her countrymen proud of her accomplishments. “Skyla receives her silver medal in her 50m breaststroke, but to us it’s so much more! You deserve it Skyla!”
The Ministry of Sports of Nevis also congratulated her for winning the medal in the girls 11-12 age category. They lauded the Federation for guiding their swimmers and helping in their journey to win the medal for the nation.
Connor had also won a bronze medal in Inter- Club Invitational Swim Meet in the 50m freestyle event. This swim meet was organized by the Pirates Swim Club Barbados where she not only secured medal but also registered her personal best timings, 29.97 sec.
This continuous victories by Connor shed light on her determination and efforts towards positioning the profile of St Kitts and Nevis to greater heights.
