The country is already celebrating the Nobel Laureate Festival from January 24 to January 26, 2024 under which a student debate is being held on Wednesday (January 24) at noon at room 2, Innovation Hub.

The subject marked to the debate is “Saint Lucia’s annual celebration of our two Nobel Laureates is more ceremonial than consequential.”

On the next day (January 25), the Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture as well will be delivered by Dr. James Fletcher under the topic Navigating the Future. This will lay a major focus on applying the teachings of Sir William Arthur Lewis to Saint Lucia’s 21st century Development Challenges.

Moreover, on January 26, the Nobel Laureate Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held in the morning at 10 am at Sir Arthur Community College, Morne Fortune, Castries. This ceremony honours the legacies of Sir Arthur Lewis and Sir Derek Walcott, who are buried on the college grounds.

During the ceremony, wreaths will be placed at the gravesites and the family members, invited guests, and college community members will celebrate the remarkable works of two Laureates. Also, the keynote speech will be delivered by Dr Patrick ‘Paba’ Anthony.

All the events to be held in the country will leave a footprint on the lives of the young generation, taking them towards the values of preserving the past and taking that to the future. The historical impressions which will be laid through this would surely impact the generation.
