Why does Jamaican want to lighten their skin with harmful bleaching? 

Jamaica: The woman of Jamaica thinks “bleaching makes you nicer, cuter and sexier than you were.” Jamaican government’s survey says from the year 2017, about 300,000 individuals in the nation of 2.8 million use bleach on their skin. Despite that, public discussion of colourism is not shared. The lack of conversation can be assigned to shame, declared by a woman.

Bleaching is used to lighten your skin. But researchers say that the dangers of bleaching goods are well-documented, and the danger of doing considerable damage to one’s skin is unquestionably a factor in putting the people off. 

But, what is the main component which makes Bleaching a danger?

Hydroquinone is the main component or culprit which gets into pigment and destroys the skin. During the interview, when a woman was asked that is she is aware of the fact’ bleach is dangerous for the skin’, then she said, “yes, I have heard about it, but from the people who don’t use it.”

For the information, Dermatologists prescribe Hydroquinone for professional treatment of pigmentation issues; however, it is often present in domestic or beauty “bleaching creams” at unregulated and hazardous levels.

Hydroquinone’s antagonistic effects, which constitute potential long-term damage to essential organs, have commenced a ban on conventional Bleaching creams in the country like the UK.

Researchers say that “Hydroquinone can separate the top layer of skin, raising the danger of skin cancer and can cause lethal liver and kidney damage.” 

What do people think about the concept of bleaching in Jamaica?

Several people have various ideologies behind bleaching their skin. But A Jamaican stated, “Nobody will tell you the exact reason behind their utilization of bleaching.”

“They don’t care about the education, danger and knowledge, and they just label bleaching as ‘FASHION,’ he added.

“Some people would say they want to look like Beyonce or Niki Minaj, and I want to be Nicki Minaj; that is why use bleach,” the woman stated.

Woman are aware of the Bleach burns, but they still use it. The trend of bleaching is majorly high in Jamaica than in other Caribbean islands. Additionally, in Ghana, the trend is as famous as in Jamaica.

According to a news survey, some women have told the media that ‘men want light skin’ that is the major reason for women using bleach.
