UNESCO Caribbean hosts meeting aiming at safeguarding intangible heritage, maintain identity of nation’s communities 

Caribbean: UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Caribbean has organized a meeting revolving around the discussions for the whole Caribbean region. The Caribbean National Commissions for UNESCO meeting in Curacao is going live, and will end today.

Under this, the main priorities which are coming out are:

• Work on a comprehensive program to combat violence in schools.
• Strengthen the safeguarding of intangible heritage to maintain the identity of communities and countries.
• Embark in constructive intersectoral programs on people of enslaved origin.

UNESCO Caribbean was established in 2002, serving 13 Caribbean Member States and 7 Associate Member States. The work the organization is doing is aimed at fostering peace, eradicating poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through programmes in education, culture, natural sciences, social and human sciences and communication and information.

The work on all these would automatically lead towards overall development of the country. UNESCO Caribbean stands ready to engage. Just a month back, there was an extended invitation to the Young Caribbean Creators under the UNESCO Transcultural Programme. This is funded by the European Union that offers twenty four scholarships from April 17 to 28, 2024 to participate in face-to-face courses at the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Banos in Cuba.

The courses under this are of two categories that are; Initiation workshop on the cinematographic sound mix and Soundtrack design, Multichannel music recording. And, the ones who can participate are the youth from 18 to 35 years of age with nationality and permanent residency.

The Caribbean region with each passing day is giving the signals of development in various sectors be it education, health or tourism. The authorities are doing great for their island nations which collaboratively gives the signal of the development of the whole region. The support of the organizations like UNESCO, World Bank or other countries are contributing a lot towards it.
