Trinidad: 10,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived in Trinidad and Tobago. The Grenada government promised that donation. Until the end of August, the government official mentioned that 10 % of the entire population, which means 1,34,000 people, will be fully vaccinated.
PM Rowley also announced during a news conference at Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, that China has also confirmed the second shipment of Sinopharm vaccine to T&T. PM Rowley has not disclosed the quantity of additional vaccine that is supposed to be received by Trinidad and Tobago from June to August.
PM Rowley said, “In recent days, we have made two substantial payments for vaccines that will allow us to have a continuous supply of vaccines to bolster and accelerate our vaccination programmes. The payments have been made and in the next six-eight weeks. Starting here in June, we expect to have a flow of vaccines that will keep us busy in an acceleration of the vaccination programme.”
PM Rowley said that vaccines would be available to people of Trinidad and Tobago for free, and the best vaccine is the one offered to them unless they have been advised against it by their specialist health care adviser, their doctor.
PM Rowley urged the people to get vaccinated as soon as possible because now the majority of the population has now agreed to get vaccinated.
He thanked for the donation by the government of Grenada, and he also highlighted the point that the vaccines have no expiry issue.
PM Rowley stated that confirmation of the second shipment of doses of the Sinopharm Vaccines shows that now they can use up all the vaccines that they have as their first dose. The coming Sinopharm vaccines will be used as the second dose for completing the vaccination.
The Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs thanked the Minister of National Security and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force for responding swiftly to our need to transport COVID-19 vaccines from within the region to Trinidad and Tobago. The 10,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine were brought by Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard.
