Trinidad and Tobago: Prime Minister of the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, gave a word of thanks at the National Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving held on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
While addressing the general public, PM Rowley stated, “We have been encouraged to listen, experienced the hurt but were told that in the great darkness, there is dawn to be had. This is our sense of strength; this is called faith. In our Christian community… without faith, we would be lost.”
Furthermore, he added, “We have to have faith in ourselves, faith in our neighbours, faith in our teachers, faith in the doctors, faith in our leaders, faith in our country as we have faith in our Gods.”
The National Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving holds major significance in the lives of the people who celebrate it. It is an annual event that brings together people to give thanks for the freedoms and opportunities one enjoys in the nation.
The National Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving is celebrated on the day of Thanksgiving. The service includes readings of scripture, prayers for peace, and blessings for our nation. During the service, leaders from all faiths come together to reflect on the past and present and ask for future guidance. It is an opportunity to come together in a spirit of unity and gratitude.
It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the many challenges our nation has faced and overcome. People remember those who have sacrificed for the nation and take time to honour their contributions. They also take time to recognise the advancements the nation has made in areas such as civil rights, economic opportunity, and healthcare.
The day is also a time to think about how we can use blessings to improve the world. One can utilise talents and resources to help those in need and to make our communities stronger and more inclusive. This is a time to remember that individual actions can make a difference and that all have a role to play in making the nation a better place.
The National Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving is an important part of national identity. It is a time to come together and reflect on the blessings of a country and the opportunities one has to make it a better place. It is also an opportunity to be thankful for the freedoms and opportunities the citizens of the nation enjoy and to recommit to making the country a better place for all.
