Trinidad and Tobago: High Commissioner of India Sahu unveils Mahatma Gandhi statue in Cedros
The High Commission of India to Trinidad and Tobago – Mr Arun Kumar Sahu visited the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Cedros on April 24.

Trinidad and Tobago: The High Commission of India to Trinidad and Tobago and Commonwealth of Dominica – Mr Arun Kumar Sahu visited the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Cedros on April 24, 2022 (Sunday).
During this visit, he was accompanied by Mr Shankar Teelucksingh, Councillor of the Siparia Regional Corporation (Cedros).
Both the leaders installed and unveiled the statue of the great leader of India on the occasion of Trinidad and Tobago’s 177th Indian Arrival Day at the historic “Manmohan Singh Park, Cedros”.
“On the 24.04.2022, the High Commission of India T&T, Mr Arun Kumar Sahu, collaborates with Mr Shankar Teelucksingh, Councillor of the Siparia Regional Corporation (Cedros), unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of T&T’s 177th Indian Arrival Day. The statue was installed & unveiled at the historic ‘Manmohan Singh Park, Cedros’,” India in Trinidad & Tobago (High Commission of India, Port of Spain) stated while informing about this latest visit.
The statue was also visited by the leader of the opposition of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar, who thanked the High Commission and High Commissioner for their support and friendship toward the Caribbean country.
“Today in Cedros for the unveiling of the newly donated statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Thank you to India in Trinidad & Tobago (High Commission of India, Port of Spain) and High Commissioner, His Excellency, Arun Kumar Sahu, for the continued friendship and support for Trinidad & Tobago,” opposition leader Bissessar noted.
Earlier, on October 2, 2021, Mahatma Gandhi’s statue was unveiled at its Harris Promenade, San Fernando home, in celebration of the 153rd birthday of Gandhi. The statue was unveiled by High Commissioner to India, Arun Kumar Sahu. He further explained to the gathering how difficult it is to live a life of nonviolence in the face of adversity, as Gandhi did. He noted, however, that it is difficult but entirely possible.
Members of the Gandhi Seva Sangh maintain the statue.
