Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir increases with 1.88 Cr tourists coming in 2022

Jammu and Kashmir, India: For the first time in Jammu and Kashmir’s history, a record 1.88 crore visitors came to UT in 2022 to take in the splendour of many well-known tourist destinations.

Its development through a positive approach, transformative initiatives, and inevitable reforms to empower Jammu and Kashmir for its people, culture, and society is highlighted by the increased visitor visits in the Union Territory, which have generated the most employment in various locations.

The Indian government is also exerting tremendous effort to improve the region’s infrastructure for residents and draw tourists. As a result, there has been a fortuitous increase in tourism activities, which has been accompanied by improvements in infrastructure and connectivity, stronger law and order, a promising security system, and peacekeeping.

The J&K administration is also focusing on building various religious tourist circuits around the union territory to fully utilise pilgrimage tourism. Facilities and infrastructure are being strengthened in light of the rising number of pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.

According to official statistics, the Katra Multi-Modal Station design has been decided upon, and the construction of the Mantalai Wellness Center has been finished at the cost of Rs. 80 crores. Similar to how Mansar and Surinsar have established themselves on the nation’s tourism map, Tawi Riverfront construction is also well underway. The government is putting great effort into welcoming locals and visitors to Sanasar Tulip Garden this season.

Similar to this, work will soon begin on 18 historical and cultural heritage sites in Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, and Udhampur. The Jambu Zoo will be made public in April 2023. The Home-stay Program was established in order to promote rural areas’ economic growth and job creation.

Surprisingly, since the new J&K Film Policy was introduced in 2021, Jammu and Kashmir has become the preferred location for filming for the industry, and permission has been given to shoot more than 150 movies and web series here in less than two years.

Jammu and Kashmir are currently being marketed as tourist destinations on all available international forums, which is why it recently had the highest-ever levels of visitor foot traffic and air travel.

Jammu and Kashmir are now accepting MICE tourism after registering a record number of visitors this year, mostly in the leisure and adventure sectors, as a result of the continued efforts of the Tourism Department and the stakeholders over the past two years.

Several business delegations have travelled to Kashmir in recent months, and many more are scheduled to do so in the upcoming months. As a result of executives from major travel companies visiting the Valley with their clients, Kashmir is also becoming popular among business travellers.

Jammu and Kashmir have the necessary infrastructure, services, and tourism package for MICE tourism, and the Department is working holistically to draw visitors from all demographics through a variety of promotions, road shows, and events in addition to the regular introduction of new adventure activities and travel destinations to maintain tourists’ interest.
