Steve Harvey donated US$15,000 for purchasing of 100 tablets for Jamaican children
This donation had been made to fill up the gap between the Jamaican children who are unable to make access to the virtual classes due to the lack of digital tools

An amount of US$15,000 has been donated by the popular TV host Steve Harvey who is also famous for his comedy. Harvey donated Steve and Marjorie Foundation. This amount would be used to buy the tablets for the Jamaican children.
This donation had been made to fill up the gap between the Jamaican children who are unable to make access to the virtual classes due to the lack of digital tools. The donation has been given to the ‘Connect A Child’ initiative in Jamaica. This donation would help to buy 100 tablets for the students who are not capable of buying them.
The ‘Connect A Child’ initiative is a collaborative effort of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, NCB Foundation, Jamaica Stock Exchange, National Education Trust and Junior Achievement Jamaica to support the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information’s ‘One Laptop or Tablet per Child’ Initiative.
PSOJ Executive Director Imega Breese McNab while thanking for the contribution, said that they have been thrilled with that donation from The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation and grateful for the support of the Jamaican Consul General in New York, Mrs Alsion Wilson, who had made the connection.
JSSE also thanked The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation for answering the call and said that this contribution would help them to advance their goal of ensuring that their children have been able to engage in online learning and reduce the learning loss that has been experienced across the island.
JSSE Manager Nora Blake said that such an act of generosity had been extended to the needs of Jamaican children has been a welcoming reminder that kindness knows no borders.
They have been delighted to see that they believe in their mission and helped alleviate the challenges of some of their most needy children.
In October 2020, the Jamaican government launched the ‘One Laptop or Tablet Per Child’ program that have been aiming to give every needy student with the requisite tools to function in the online teaching and learning environment.
