St Vincent & Grenadines police asks public not to share child pornography video

The police authorities of St Vincent and the Grenadines is asking the general public to delete and stop circulating the pornographic video of a 4-year-old. The police force made the remark while expressing concern over the impact the video would cause on the child’s mental health. 

The video is in relation to the sexual abuse of a girl. The local media reported the incident, after which the warning was issued by the Royal Police Force of St Vincent and the Grenadines. 

RSVGPF reminded people that under the Cybercrime Act 2016, to produce, make available, distribute, procure, possess or obtain child pornography through a computer system or on a computer data storage medium is cited as an offence. 

If one fails to comply with this, he/she could face severe consequences under Cybercrime Act 2016 subsection 14 of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines.  

Child sexual abuse material (legally defined as child pornography) refers to any content over the internet that depicts sexually explicit activities involving a child. Several cases of child pornography are seen nowadays as sexual abuse is quite frequent. 

The United States continues to be one of the largest producers and consumers of child abuse content in the world. There is an urgent need to address the matter. 

Child sexual abuse can occur in a variety of settings, including home, school, or work (in places where child labour is common). Child marriage is one of the prominent structures of child sexual abuse; UNICEF has stated that child marriage “represents perhaps the most prevalent form of sexual abuse and exploitation of girls.“

The global majority of child sexual abuse has been calculated at 19.7% for females and 7.9% for males.
