Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation, shared an update regarding the commencement of a ‘well-drilling project’ in Cabbage Tree, Cayon. The construction work at the site will start on June 9, 2023 (Friday).
Prime Minister Drew outlined that the government of St Kitts and Nevis has been working tirelessly to fulfil the water demand in the nation. He took it the social media and mentioned, “As pledged, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration continues to work toward addressing the water situation throughout the country.”
Furthermore, he shared the details of the construction company – Bedrock Exploration Development Technologies (BEAD) St Kitts Ltd and also shared the construction site. “The company, BEAD, is about to begin the well drilling project at a site identified in Cabbage Tree, Cayon, on Friday, June 9 2023, close to the island’s main road and in the vicinity of the gas station,” he mentioned.
The Government of St Kitts and Nevis has contracted with the company through the Water Services Department (WSD). Cromwell Williams, Manager and Hydrogeologist, will head the project.
WSD Manager Williams expressed his joyfulness and anticipated that the completion of the project will assist in the production of an additional 500,000 gallons per day. As per him, it is believed that the project will fulfil the water demand of not just the Cayon but also the surrounding communities.
Furthermore, he asked the general public of the area, and St Kitts and Nevis, to engage in water conservation practices. He said, “All citizens and residents should conserve water, which is even more crucial now, as we are in the dry season.”
PM Terrance Drew stated that after the completion of the project, it will bring relief to the local communities residing in the region. “The project, once successful, is expected to bring major relief to the community of Cayon experience water woes for many years,” his social media post read.
