St Kitts and Nevis launches 'Sound Your Future' music camp to nurture talent 

The highly anticipated “Sound Your Future” Music Summer Camp 2024 launched in St Kitts and Nevis on Monday, 19th August 2024. This camp is an initiative which has been spearheaded by Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew with a vision to nurture musical talent and focus on the development of each participant.

The Music Summer Camp 2024 is taking place under the theme “Building Our Own Unique Sound to Create a Future We Love to Hear” with a vision to nurture and develop the musical talent and providing them a platform to learn, grow and create.

While shedding light on this camp, PM Terrance Drew stated that it will play a crucial role in providing opportunities to the participants to enhance their skills and foster their talent. The camp will also focus on enhancing practical performance skills of all the participants in order to help them gain required confidence so that they can perform with 100% assurance.

Moreover, the participants will be taught several musical styles in order to broaden their creative horizons. Along with music, the authorities will focus on the importance of building lasting friendships among participants and encourages the development of healthy habits among them, ensuring their overall well-being.

Notably, Prime Minister Terrance Drew collaborated with National Calypso Monarch Queen Independent on this initiative to enhance musical skills and develop well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society’s well-being and advancement. This initiative is also one of the strategic measures undertaken by the authorities as a sustainable solution to address issues like crime and violence.

Dr Terrance Drew called this Camp, more than just an event. He stated that it is a movement towards building a future that resonates with the positive changes that could bring creativity, friendship and well-being to the society.

During the opening ceremony of the Camp, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle outlined the significance of creating environment that offer alternatives to the negative influences of the society.

While emphasizing the camp, she noted that it provides a safe and secure space for young minds to engage in constructive and positive activities, preventing them from falling into high-risk situations.

Hazelle continued to talk about the diverse opportunities for the citizens in the future and stated that the Creative Arts Centre will offer young creatives a space and platform to showcase their talents so that they can also contribute to the cultural heritage of the nation. This camp will be supported by several facilitators who will guide participants in various disciplines such as performance, pan, music engineering, marketing, production and many more.

The facilitators that will be guiding the participants include, Cory Tyson from Nevis; Venelle Powell from Nevis; Jelani Shaw from Trinidad; MJ Byron from St. Kitts; Loughlin Tatem from St. Kitts and Creighton Pension from St. Kitts.

She stated that this initiative is a great way of addressing societal challenges and enhancing musical abilities in order to contribute towards the safety and vibrance of communities.
