St. David parish takes center stage in Grenada’s 50th Independence celebrations

As Grenada enters its 50th year of independence, a series of events to run throughout the month presents the culture heritage and community spirit within the Parish of St. David.

As St. David highlights the national theme “One People, One Journey, One Future”, while reflecting upon the history of Grenada, the Parish unites through in faith, culture, and honoring the pillars of the community.

Uniting in Faith: Ecumenical Service Opens Festivities

The events kick off on Sunday, 6th October with a special Ecumenical Service at St. David RC Church. The service set to take place at 3:00 pm will bring the various faith communities together for a moment of reflection and thanksgiving in common.

As a spiritual start to the celebrations, it should awaken residents to the aspects of unity that have supported them in moving through 50 years of growth and development and independence.

Ecumenical Service marking the parish’s solidarity, introduces the month of being together with an essence of pride and cultural honor.

Recognition of local heroes: Awards and Cocktail Event

It will be the first time that St. David is about to host an Awards and Cocktail Event at Westerhall Secondary School on Friday, 18th October, starting at 7:00 pm.

The evening will be a celebration of contributions across the parish from all sectors, whether educators, healthcare professionals, business leaders, or cultural pioneers whose work has helped shape the community during these years.

Apparently, it will be both a celebration of achievement and a social occasion, through which residents can get together in a formal yet festive atmosphere. It will also be an inspiring reminder of some of the local talent and dedication that continues to propel the parish forward.

Family, Fun and Culture: Extravaganza and Fun Day

Without doubt, the Extravaganza and Fun Day of the celebration is the most glamorous event put on for Saturday, 2nd November, at La Sagesse Playing Field, starting at 10:00 am.

All groups to be present there, entertainment and fun is promised to people of all ages through several activities like the fun games for children, cultural performances, and live music accompanied by the local vendors selling traditional food and drinks.

The Extravaganza and Fun Day captures the essence of community, where residents and visitors alike can come together to have the enjoyment of Grenadian culture, celebrating the milestone of the nation and take pride in the parish’s contribution.

Month-long Art Exhibition: Showcasing Grenadian Art

St. David will, throughout the month of October, host an Art Exhibition at the Ebony Art Gallery in Red Gate. There would be local artists from Grenada whose works will be on show for visitors to immerse themselves in the rich artistic traditions of the island.

The exhibition allows the parish’s people to have a more creative involvement in the celebrations as the event happens with Grenada marking its independence anniversary.

Looking Forward, Reflecting Back

A rich combination of reflection, recognition, and celebration among the parish’s events marks Grenada’s 50th anniversary of independence with the leading light on St. David.

From the unity to be seen through the Ecumenical Service to the community pride as celebrated in the Awards Event, this year’s celebration is to honor the past but also look forward to the future.

With the wide variety of activities all the way from a family-friendly Fun Day to the month-long art exhibition, this is for sure that the events will have something for everyone.

St. David’s celebrations although are about looking back on the 50 years of independence, they are also about building on that legacy and celebrating a future of unity and progress for Grenada.
