Saint Lucia: HelpAWS shares story about little pups

Castries, Saint Lucia: Castries-based animal welfare organisation, HelpAWS, has recently shared update about the little puppies. The dog shelter noted that puppies and kids. Just the thought of the two together conjures up images of fast-wagging tails and gales of laughter.

“Sadly that wasn’t the case for these eight tiny puppies that were found living in a building connected to the school. With no mama around, these itty bitty babies were left on their own, starving and absolutely riddled with fleas and ticks! Thankfully a teacher at the school reached out to us, knowing these little ones needed help, and they are now safe with us at the shelter,” the post by the organisation mentioned.

It further informed that they are very malnourished and frail. The organisation has no idea how long they have gone without food or what happened to their mama. The flea infestation is so bad one can literally see them crawling all over the poor puppies. The volunteers from the shelter can only begin to imagine how miserable life has been for these sweethearts thus far, and they are thankful for the opportunity to help give them a fighting chance at a good life.

The social media post further read, “One of the ongoing problems we face is the lack of understanding of animals as living, feeling beings. Abuse of animals is sickening but we must realize this type of behaviour is learned and the only way to facilitate change for future generations of humans and animals on the island is through educational programs geared toward school-aged kids. Thankfully, there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to our education program, and when we have been able to go out to local schools and speak with the children about the proper care and love of animals, we intend to continue to make this a priority here in Saint Lucia.”

While outlining about the adoption procedure, HelpAWS noted, “With numbers increasing and our shelter filling up, we could REALLY use your help in caring for these little darlings.
