Indian Cricket team Captain Rohit Sharma was snapped eating granules of soil from the Barbados pitch following their remarkable and memorable victory in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian skipper sat on the ground after the match and ate a speck of soil in order to show respect to the pitch of Kensington Oval, where his team became world champions.
Notably, India ended the wait of long 17 years and claimed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Saturday by defeating South Africa by 7 runs. With this prestigious victory, India also became the first-ever team to win an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 undefeated.
Moreover, following this massive victory, the entire Barbados region turned into mini-India and the streets of the island nation were filled with supporters celebrating Team India’s victory. Not only this, two of the greatest cricketers of all time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also announced their retirement and stated that it is best moment to say goodbye to this format and gave the charge to the next generation to take the T20 game forward.
This victory was a memorable and emotional ride for the entire Indian Cricket team who was disheartened along with millions of Indian fans following their loss against Australia in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023. Following that, the BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah made a promise that in 2024 India will definitely win the T20 World Cup in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and he will hoist the flag on the pitch of Kensington Oval.
Rohit Sharma turned the hopes of BCCI into reality and fulfilled Jay Shah’s wish by planting the Indian flag on the soil after the conclusion of the final.
Also, during the post-match presentation, the Indian Skipper lauded all his team members and stated that he was extremely proud of the bunch of boys who all stuck together as a team and gave all their sweat and blood to win the game.
Opting to bat first at Barbados, the Indian team lost early three crucial wickets which includes, Rohit Sharma, SuryaKumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant but Virat Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking at the other end. He again proved why he is called as the Greatest of all time by hitting 76 runs under tremendous pressure to keep India’s innings going.
Before the final, Virat Kohli struggled in the entire tournament but he proved his presence and made a crucial partnership with Axar Patel to revive the innings of India.
Also, Jasprit Bumrah took crucial 2 wickets in the final and played a huge role in ending an 11 yearlong global trophy drought. He claimed 15 wickets and also declared as the Player of the Tournament. While, Arshdeep Singh also remained the crucial aspect for the Indian Cricket team as he took 17 wickets and finished as the highest wicket taker in the tournament.
The catch of David Miller taken by Surya Kumar Yadav in the final over bowled by Hardik Pandya is receiving a lot of appreciation and love from all over the fans. They have described it as the “Catch of the tournament” who not only defended six runs but saved a trophy slipping off the hands of the Indian Cricket team.
Also, the Vice Captain, Hardik Pandya got emotional after registering this historic victory who stated that he started as a young boy from Baroda who dreamt of playing for his nation, India is now signing off from Barbados as the champion of World Cup. He was given the responsibility to bowl the final over and defend 16 runs.
Hardik Pandya was getting mocked by fans a lot during his poor performance in Indian Premier League 2024 and the fans also questioned his name in the squad. But he proved himself by taking a wicket of Klassen when South Africa needed just 26 runs from 24 balls. He scripted one of the most dramatic turnarounds and led his team towards victory.
Also, Rahul Dravid signed off as Indian Head Coach and called this victory the memory of a lifetime. The fans and lovers of cricket lauded the player and stated that he truly deserves this appreciation and justified why he is called the “Great Wall of Indian Cricket.”
