Premier Mark Brantley acknowledged West Indian former cricketer Carl Tuckett and called him the unsung hero of Nevis. Tuckett is currently standing at the centre of the field and performing his duties as an umpire in CPL 2024, aligning by the much-expected brilliance and top-notch reviewing and decision-making.

While sharing the picture of Tuckett on his social media account, Premier Mark Brantley stated sometimes people are so quiet and humble that they don’t notice the incredible things that they are doing. He added that therefore, he wants to salute a humble Nevisian like Carl Tuckett, who has played regional and international cricket, representing West Indies on an international platform.

Carl Tuckett was a middle-order batter who also bowled medium pace. He made his One Day International debut in Port of Spain in April 1998 and that remained his only appearance for West Indies.

In his only ODI, he had figures of 2 wickets for 41 runs from 8 overs against England at Queen’s Park Oval, Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad, on 8 April 1998. In that match, he dismissed Alec Stewart and Graeme Hick. He was also a part of the Leeward side, which won the Red Stripe Bowl, the List A tournament, in 1997, and even contributed to the side’s victory in the three knockout games.

Following that, Tuckett took the umpiring and initially started with domestic matches, including CPL. His first international game as an umpire was a Women’s T20 match between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Coolidge in October 2017.

Premier Brantley stated that he is extremely proud to see Carl Tuckett standing in this year’s CPL tournament and representing Nevis with utmost professionalism. “He is certainly one of the unsung heroes of our little island home,” noted Premier Mark Brantley.

Caribbean Premier League is a franchise-based T20 format tournament that combines two of the most compelling aspects of Caribbean life – dramatic cricket and a vibrant Carnival atmosphere. The Tournament commenced on 29th August and will continue till 6th October 2024.

This competition is being held between six teams including, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders.

As, CPL 2024 has almost reached at its final stage, all the teams have now fired up to their peak forms and is making every possible effort to take the team to the finals stage with a vision to get their hands on the winning trophy.

Currently, Barbados Royals is at the first position of the points table with 8 points, having a positive net run rate of 0.920. They are followed by Saint Lucia Kings and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the second and third positions, respectively.

Also, in 2015, the Nevis Island Administration renamed a refurbished road after Carl Tuckett in order to honour him for his dedication and contribution to the development of the sporting sector. Premier Brantley stated that such personalities like Tuckett bring glory to the name of the nation.
