Caribbean: The Governments of Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda, on May 20, 2022 (Friday), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed to provide economic cooperation in eight areas, including tourism, financial services, agriculture, air transportation and energy.
President Dr Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua signed the Memorandum at State House in Georgetown.
The two leaders observed that the Memorandum is another step in the many collaborative efforts in which Antigua and Barbuda and Guyana have been involved since the governments of the two countries, along with Barbados, launched the Caribbean Free Trade Agreement at Dickenson Bay in Antigua in 1965.
Both nations have shared diplomatic relations since February 3, 1982, and since then, countries have been full members of the Caribbean Community and of the Organization of American States.
Recently, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Browne, was in Guyana to attend the inaugural of Agri-Investment Forum & Expo Exhibition Tour at the Arthur Chung Conference Center in Georgetown.
During the opening ceremony, PM Browne addressed the audience and stated that if CARICOM is to succeed in attaining regional food security and achieve a high standard of agri-food production, the infrastructure must be supported by an inclusive development policy to include – continuous, direct investment, and a modernized legal framework which accounts for the required standards and quality of our products.
