PM Roosevelt Skerrit asks for global cooperation against financial, social crises
Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit attended the BOAO Forum for Asia 2024 in Boao, Hainan Province. He addressed the opening ceremony and focused on building a better and prosperous future by strengthening political and economic efforts.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit attended the BOAO Forum for Asia 2024 in Boao, Hainan Province. He addressed the opening ceremony and focused on building a better and prosperous future by strengthening political and economic efforts.
During the address, PM Skerrit shed light on the required measures to overcome the challenges that the entire world is facing. He shared that there is an urgent need for the world to work together and focus on strengths with a motive of attaining peace and sustainable development.
The leader of Dominica talked about the issues of sustainable development which has created high levels of inequality, poverty and marginalization among nations.
Therefore, he added that there is an urgency to enhance cooperation and solidarity between countries with the motive to provide effective responses to the social, financial and economic crises which many countries are facing around the world.
While shedding light on the burden of the gross inequalities which is borne by the poorest nations. He stated, “The unjust international economic order persists and is strengthened, and the devastating burden of which continues to be borne by the poorest countries.”
PM Skerrit also mentioned the devastating challenges of climate change that the low-lying developing island states are facing. “The effects of climate change threaten the existence of low-lying developing island states and continue to destroy lives,” noted PM Roosevelt Skerrit. Therefore, he asked the citizens to move towards a change of era and bring positive growth to the world.
He also talked about the option of following the same pattern of production of energy and consumption which are no longer viable and causing terrible damage to the environment or assuming a new path that ponders sustainable and inclusive development and with a long-term vision.
He added that it is essential to have the convergence of interest, purposes, and actions among peoples, individuals, states, and international organizations to achieve this collective goal of bringing sustainable development.
For the same, he recognized the essential role of the Bohr Forum and the People’s Republic of China which played a pivotal role in providing development alternatives for other countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.
He also appreciated the initiative promoted by the People’s Republic of China which has created such conditions which have stimulated economic growth without causing any harm to the environment. He also talked about the help that China has extended to the developing countries in their process of industrialization and access to digital technologies.
PM Skerrit also noted the benefits earned through the Belt and Road Initiative which was proposed by President XI Jinping. While sharing the tangible results, he stated that the nation has seen a reduction in poverty, food security, health corporation financing for development, climate change and green development, digital economy, and connectivity in the digital age.
“China has created a development miracle that has astonished the world, and at the same time, China has made great contributions to the cause of global development,” said PM Roosevelt Skerrit.
Moreover, he also highlighted the island nation’s efforts to become the first climate-resilient nation. He also shed light on the unwavering commitment and dedication of the authorities of Dominica to achieve this goal.
PM Skerrit also mentioned Dominica’s Climate Resilience and Recovery Plan 2020 2030 and the Disaster Risk Financing Strategy, which together have defined a roadmap for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
The leader has promised to continue to advocate the maintenance of multilateralism and partnership for solidarity as ways to find global solutions to common challenges.
