PM Harris fails to address the dispute of SKNANB systematically: SKN labour party

St Kitts and Nevis: St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party stated that Prime Minister of SKN, Timothy Harris, failed to address the dispute of SKNANB systematically.

St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party condemned the working of the current government of SKN.

St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party stated that there had been much speculation surrounding the “IT security incident” at the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank (SKNANB) that took place over a week ago, on Thursday 11 February 2021. The Prime Minister remained silent on the dispute until Comrade Leader Rt mentioned it. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas during the first sitting of Parliament on Thursday 18 February.

Furthermore, the SKN labour party added that, as the Prime Minister, Harris should have been able to reassure the patron and reaffirm confidence in the bank’s ability to resolve the matter. Instead, he failed to adequately address the concern allowing worry and speculation to reign, diminishing the bank’s reputation.

Additionally, The SKNANB is the largest indigenous bank within the Eastern Caribbean and the official bank of St. Kitts and Nevis’s government, including Social Security. Yet as with every crisis on the island, the Prime Minister is the last to speak out on the matter.

During his response, Harris referenced the matter as a “cybersecurity incident,” not an “IT security incident,” as the SKNANB press releases stated. 

According to Law Insider, “Cyber Security Incident means anything, event, act or omission which gives, or may give, rise to unauthorized access to any information system, data or electronic communications network (including breach of an applicable security policy).”

Based on the definition given by Law Insider, Harris clearly confirmed the speculations that have been circulating within the public. Till now, customers are still unable to have full access to their accounts and some of the online services.

On the other hand, they also stated that, Is it not the job of the government to at least consult the general public on pertinent matters, or at least inform the people of St. Kitts and Nevis of their decisions.

Right under our noses, the Timothy Harris administration made some significant edits to the Coat of Arms, a symbol that has been untouched for decades.
