Jamaican PM Andrew Holness meets Indian PM Narendra Modi to strengthen bilateral ties

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness met Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and exchanged significant dialogues investment, trade, education and many more with a vision to bolster global relation and also to exchange strategies to boost economic ties, with the latter growing nation.

Both the leaders held discussions on various topics aiming to enhance relations and diverse sectors of both the countries. The topics that were focussed in the meeting includes, trade, investment, renewable energy, digital transformation, development partnership, education and many more.

PM Modi expressed his excitement on meeting with Jamaican Prime Minister and stated that he is confident that that his visit will give new energy to their bilateral relations as well as their engagement with the entire Caribbean region.

Notably, PM Andrew Holness made his visit on 30th September, 2024 to the Capital of India, New Delhi where he was warmly received by MoS Ministry of Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary. And, since then, he has been making several visits with a vision to strengthen their relationship and represent Jamaica on the global stage.

A Jamaica Road has been opened in New Delhi by PM Andrew Holness, who called it a historical milestone and stated that this occasion stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between both the nations.

While sharing the glimpses of the unveiling ceremony of the Road, PM Holness extended his deepest gratitude to the Government of India, particularly the Ministry of External Affairs and the Municipal Council of New Delhi, for this significant and symbolic gesture.

He asserted that this moment has made even more significant as they reflect on the recent naming of a road in Kingston in honour of Dr. Ambedkar, one of India’s Constitutional Fathers, during the visit of former President Sri Ram Nath Kovind to Jamaica.

Moreover, PM Holness officially opened the High Commission in New Delhi and stated that this occasion symbolizes the commitment to strengthening their presence in India and deepening the relationship between both countries.

PM Holness mentioned that by strengthening direct links, particularly in the tourism sector, they are aiming to open new doors for economic growth, cultural exchange, and greater interaction between the people of Jamaica and India.

After that, PM Holness also visited Rajghat in New Delhi which is a memorial complex which was dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi where a black marble platform was raised to mark the spot of his cremation on 31 January 1948. He offered floral tributes and paid a two-minute silence in order to honour him.

This bilateral visit by PM Holness will continue till 3rd October, 2024 and the leader is expecting to held several other meetings as well in order to form a strong partnership between both the nations.
