Jamaica: Govt hands over keys to many low-income families

Jamaica: Many low-income families end up in informal settlements on public lands, building their homes in vulnerable areas with inadequate sanitation and other facilities, which put their health and safety at risk. The Government of Jamaica continues to improve the quality of housing solutions for our most vulnerable Jamaicans.

Opal Manning, who resides in the constituency of Clarendon North Central represented by MP Robert Morgan, occupied a structure unsuitable for her family to live in. Yesterday afternoon, Manning was the proud recipient of the keys to her brand new home built through the New Social Housing Programme.

Being mindful of Manning’s use of a wheelchair, her new home is equipped with ramps to allow her greater mobility.

The government has delivered 75 housing solutions so far, and is satisfied that all of them have gone to persons who were genuinely in need.

After many years of prayers and patience, yesterday afternoon, Albert Logan finally received the keys to his brand new home through the New Social Housing initiative under the Housing, Opportunity, Production, and Employment Programme (HOPE).

Logan received a one-bedroom home inclusive of a bathroom, kitchen, and living room area. He resides in the constituency of Clarendon North Central, represented by MP Robert Morgan.

The government is going through each constituency and identifying our Jamaican brothers and sisters who are living in the worst of the worst conditions, and is intervening and building sustainable housing solutions for them.
