Two people of Guyana were killed in an accident in the West side of Guyana. Notably, the police officers of the nation are investigating an accident which took place at around 6:00 hrs on Monday, 25 December 2023 on the public road at Le Destin, East Bank Essequibo.

The terrifying incident resulted in the death of two men. As per the sources, both have been identified as residents of De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara.

It is to be noted that the accident involved motorcar #PXX 872. Lechan Mangal, a 25-year-old, resident of Lot 5 De Kinderen ‘Old Road’, West Coast Demerara was driving the car. Other occupants, 26-year-old Stephon Anthony Basdeo (now deceased), resident of Lot 1 De Kinderen ‘Old Road’ and 27-year-old Aubrey Hardy, resident of De Kinderen, were also present in the car.

As per the sources, car #PXX 872 was heading towards the East along the northern side of the road at a fast speed. Therefore, the driver lost his control and collided with a container on the parapet.

The collision resulted in Lechan Mangal and Stephen Basdeo receiving multiple injuries on their bodies. Both the men were picked up in an unconscious manner and were taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. The doctors on duty examined them and announced dead on their arrival.

Moreover, the bodies were taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home for post-mortem examination.

The third occupant, Aubrey Hardy who received multiple injuries is currently at Leonora Cottage Hospital and is receiving treatment. His condition is regarded as stable by doctors.

Further, many residents of Guyana reacted on this matter and expressed their sentiments adding that, “Most accidents on the roads today are caused by people under 30 years old.” While another person commented read as, “My condolences to the family members of the deceased but my point is why drink and drive bro.”

It is to be added that, the Guyana authorities should look upon the need to address the ongoing issue of drink and drive, as it is becoming one of the major reasons for the increase in the number of road fatalities.
