Guyana: Health Minister and PAHO director discusses technical cooperation agreement

Guyana: Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, the Regional Director of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), Dr Carissa F. Etienne and the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Representative to Guyana, Dr Luis Felipe Codina met with various programme heads and other officials of the Health Ministry to discuss the technical cooperation agreement between PAHO and the Ministry to better support Guyana’s health system at the Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown, on October 25, 2022.
During the meeting, Minister Dr Frank Anthony, along with Dr Carissa Etienne, signed and renewed the strategic note agreement between PAHO and MOH, which will foster further improvements within Guyana’s health sector over five years.
Minister Anthony, in his address, stated that the MOH had received great support from PAHO over the years. He highlighted that Guyana had acquired assistance in the procurement of vaccines for Immunisation, the development of legislations and programmes to facilitate advanced health care and the provision of equipment, materials and other resources.
The Minister states that he looks forward to the continued partnership between the two agencies as efforts are made to further build and expand the health sector in Guyana.
Meanwhile, Dr Carissa Etienne expressed her anticipation of working with the Ministry of Health in efforts to achieve the realisation of the health vision for the people of Guyana.
Among those present at today’s meeting were the Advisors to the Minister of Health, Dr Leslie Ramsammy and Dr Bheri Ramsaran; the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narine Singh; Director General of the Health Ministry, Dr Vishwa Mahadeo; Permanent Secretary, Malcolm Watkins, programme heads of the MOH and other PAHO officials.
